Custody & Support

Divorce Attorney in Bloomington, Minnesota

Experienced Counsel in Child Custody and Support Matters

If you have minor children and your marriage or domestic relationship has ended, you want an experienced lawyer to help you resolve custody and support matters. Maintaining an objective perspective can be challenging when your children are involved. You want an experienced attorney, one who has worked closely with others in similar situations, finding solutions that are in the best interests of the children while protecting your rights as a parent.

At the Drummer Law Office, I have focused our practice exclusively on family law for over 14 years, including all matters related to child custody and child support. I put the needs of you and your children first, taking all legal and ethical measures to help you accomplish your goals. I know that divorce can be traumatic and work hard to provide strong, yet compassionate counsel throughout the process.

All clients at my office receive a free initial consultation. To schedule an appointment, contact my office online or call me at 952-236-1783 (toll-free at 888-578-5613).

My Child Custody Practice

I work with married and unmarried parents, helping you establish and implement custody and visitation (parenting time) plans that are in the best interests of your children. In situations involving unmarried parents, I will work with you to complete and file Recognition of Parentage (ROP) forms, when both parties agree.

Protecting Your Rights with Regard to Child Support

In Minnesota, child support is based on a formula, which includes the incomes of both parties, as well as the amount of time each parent spends with the child. Child support also includes daycare costs, health insurance premiums and unreimbursed medical expenses.

I will carefully review all proposed child support orders for compliance with the Minnesota guidelines. I will also verify that all relevant income is included in the calculation.

My Spousal Support/Maintenance Representation

I will work closely with you to determine whether a grant of alimony or spousal support is warranted and, if so, how much should be paid and for how long. I will look at all the factors to evaluate whether alimony should be temporary/rehabilitative or permanent, including:

  • The length of your marriage
  • The age and health of the parties
  • The earning capacity of the parties, including the ability of a former non-wage earner to develop a career or become gainfully employed
  • The standard of living to which the parties were accustomed
