Divorce Lawyer in Bloomington, Minnesota
Experienced and Compassionate ◊ Placing Your Interests First
It has often been said that divorce is second only to the death of a loved one in terms of emotional trauma. When you are involved in divorce proceedings, you can find it difficult to know what's in your best interests, especially when faced with difficult decisions about child custody, child support, alimony or spousal maintenance and the division of marital assets. You want an objective and compassionate attorney, one who will assertively protect your rights throughout the process.
At the Drummer Law Office, I have dedicated my practice entirely to family law for over 14 years. I give top priority to your needs and concerns, doing whatever I can legally and ethically do to help you get where you want to go. I firmly believe in communication, taking the time to listen carefully to all your questions and concerns, and keeping you fully apprised of your options, as well as your likelihood of success.
I provide a free consultation to all new clients. Contact my office online or call me at 952-236-1783 (toll-free at 888-578-5613) for an appointment.
My Divorce Practice
I work closely with men and women throughout the divorce process, from the initial filing through post-judgment requests for modification or enforcement. I handle all matters related to or arising out of divorce, including:
- Division of marital property. I will help you equitably divide the debts and assets of your marriage, including real and personal property, bank accounts and investment, retirement funds and business interests. I will help you prepare a qualified domestic relations order (QDRO) to equalize your retirement assets, if only one party contributed to a retirement account.
- Child support. I will review all proposed child support agreements for compliance with Minnesota guidelines and to verify that all income is included in the calculation, such as seasonal, commission-based or self-employment income.
- Child custody and parenting time (visitation). I will help you develop and put in place custody and parenting time arrangements that are in the best interests of your children. I will also work to ensure that the agreements you come to provide you with a meaningful opportunity to participate in the growth and development of your children.
- Alimony or spousal maintenance. I will work with you to determine whether alimony should be granted and, if so whether it should be temporary/rehabilitative or permanent. I will also help you determine the amount and frequency of payments.
In Minnesota, mediation is required in all family law disputes, unless there are allegations of domestic violence. If you go to mediation, I will help you prepare, explaining the process as well as your rights, so that you have the best opportunity to benefit from the experience.
I have handled many domestic abuse cases arising out of divorce, most often on a pro bono basis. I also review and prepare legal separation and prenuptial agreements.
